Brewer Jon's Root Beer

Brewer Jon's root beer is made in small batches at The Triton Brewing Company, which is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was recently passing through the area, so I stopped and picked up a growler. Brewer Jon's sports an acceptable head and it's somewhat frothy. The body is rather tasty. Very minty! I'm detecting lots of wintergreen with a smaller notes of licorice. There is also a touch of vanilla and honey to help keep the body well rounded. The finish has a nice rooty kick with some spice. Good stuff! 8/10.

Bagger Dave's Root Beer

Bagger Dave's is an up and coming burger chain, who recently decided to add a line of bottled craft sodas to their menu. Their flavors include: Black Cherry Cream, Orange Cream, and of coarse Root Beer. These sodas are made in small batches and the root beer did not disappoint. I usually don't have huge expectations for sodas that are made for restaurant chains. They usually play it safe and are very conservative in their flavor profiles. I'm sure it's their goal to appeal to everybody. Just once I'd like to find a Sparky's or an Ithaca type tasting brew at a chain restaurant. Bagger Dave's is probably one the best out on the market. The head on their brew was definitely sizable and very frothy. The body was rich and creamy with noticeable notes of vanilla and caramel. It had a solid sassafras note too. The finish was just creamy and delightful! Very well done Bagger Dave's. Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9/10.

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company Root Beer

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company is located in Akron, Ohio and was established back in 1997. I like the fact that this company goes out of their way to help sheltered dogs find good homes. I had known about this root beer for awhile now...but just recently found myself in Akron. I had no idea what I was in for! How is of the best brews I've ever had is only available on tap? This brew is a root beer connoisseurs dream come true. It's complex and very unique. The head is medium in stature and very frothy. The body is rich, creamy, and full of spicy goodness. It has light wintergreen notes followed by rich creamy vanilla and caramel. I do believe there is a touch of honey in this elixir too. The carbonation level is impeccable, which allows every flavor to be tasted. The finish is spicy, smooth and has undertones of caramel vanilla sweetness. Bravo!! It's my hope that they'll decide to bottle this root beer someday. It's also available at Reto Dog in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10+/10.

Norka Sparkling Beverages Root Beer

Norka Sparkling Beverages is located in Akron, Ohio. Norka existed back in the 1920's and ceased production in 1962. I was super excited a few months ago when I heard Ohio was getting another bottled root beer. I'm so glad Michael Considine decided to bring this company back to life. The head on this brew could use some work, I'm afraid is fizzes away too quickly. The body has a nice authentic flavor to it. It has a light sassafras core with a generous amount of premium vanilla mixed in. This brew is also a tad creamy and is very hospitable on the taste buds. The finish is a delicate vanilla note with a touch of carbonation bite. It's my belief this company has a bright future in its revival. 8.5/10.

North High Brewing Root Beer

North High Brewing is located in Columbus, Ohio. NHB opened their doors for business back in 2011. I thought it was time to start throwing in some growler reviews. Also, I'm a tad curious what other brews might be out there. Ohio in general...has numerous breweries with their own root beer on tap. Columbus has almost a half dozen breweries with a root beer. So...I should stay busy for awhile. I was a little disappointed with the head on this one. It started out okay but fizzed away almost immediately. It was hard not to notice the amazing aroma that;s coming off this brew. It has a strong minty aroma to it. You can tell that wintergreen, licorice, and a touch of star anise are the key notes. I wish they could've made room for some honey and vanilla. This stuff has a nice rooty kick but I'd prefer it be a little creamier. 7/10.

So Duh! Rockin Root Beer

So Duh! Rockin Root Beer is brought to you by the fine folks over at Hermitage Brewing Company. HBC was established in 2009 and is located in San Jose, CA. The head on this brew is illustrious! It truly is remarkable and you almost got to see it to believe it. This root beer is very light in color but extremely full of rich flavor. I hope you like honey because this soda is jam-packed with it. Then if you add the silky vanilla to this brew....Magical! The finish is creamy vanilla and honey with a little spice...sooooooo good! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Point Premium Root Beer

Point Premium root beer is is handcrafted by The Stevens Point Brewery, which is located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Stevens Point Brewery has been around since 1857. They offer a line of sodas, which includes vanilla cream, black cherry cream, orange cream, kitty cocktail, diet root beer, and Yes...root beer! This award winning brew is also their flagship soda. This is yet another outstanding root beer from the state of Wisconsin. The head on this brew was exceptional...very frothy with medium staying power. The body is a creamy joy. It consists of vanilla, honey, caramel...with a light sassafras core. There's not a lot of spice but the finish is rich and delightful! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9/10.

Grand Teton Root Beer

Grand Teton Brewing Company is located in Victor, Idaho. They opened their doors for business back in 1988. They have their own line of sodas, which includes black cherry, mountain berry, cream soda, and of coarse their flagship brew...root beer. I can't get over how smooth and refreshing this soda is...It seems like I consumed it in like 5 minutes. The head on this brew was quite impressive! The body sports a premium sassafras core with vanilla and a hint of wintergreen. You can really notice the wintergreen in the finish, which is extraordinary! Did an angel bring this brew down from heaven? Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Old Town 66 Root Beer

This root beer is number 2 of 3 that I've reviewed from The Old Town Root Beer Company. This is another Route 66 themed brew...there are a few others on the market. I think Old Town should be commended on giving us 3 different root beers to chose from. This brew in particular could be described as their spicy option. I found myself savoring every swallow. The body is rich, bold, creamy, and full of spicy flavor.  This soda is dazzling me with all its complexity. There is some intense cinnamon and wintergreen making themselves known almost immediately. There is also a little honey that makes way into the finish! The head on this brew could be described as uninspiring...but the the rest makes up for it and then some! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9.5/10.

D-n-A Root Beer

D-n-A root beer is one of 3 root beers brought to you by The Old Town Root Beer Company, which is located in Temecula, CA. Old Town is family owned and operated since 2000. I guess D-n-A stands for two little kid's names. Profits from this root beer will go to sending them to college. This brew really sports an outstanding head. It's rather large with much staying power. The body is full of flavor! It has honey, vanilla, and cinnamon, which combine to create...root beer goodness! The finish is rather pleasant and creamy and has a little kick with cinnamon. This brew basically has it all! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Joby Joe's Root Beer

Joby Joe's root beer is a new brew by Rocket Fizz. I guess this soda has something to do with Rocket Fizz being on Undercover Boss. I haven't had the chance to see the episode yet, but it is waiting on my DVR. The head on this brew is quite large but with minimal staying power. The body is very sweet and creamy. Vanilla is by far the most prominent flavor i'm noticing in this brew. The vanilla has almost a candy profile to it...that's how sweet it is. This brew is definitely refreshing and I'd drink it again. 7.5/10

Harmony Springs Root Beer

Harmony Springs is located in Ludlow, Massachusetts. Harmony Springs has been handcrafting their artesian soda pop since 1908. They produce around 20 different flavors, which includes a birch beer and sarsaparilla. The head on this brew is almost magical. It is very large and has medium staying power. The body is light in flavor and it's also not very sweet. It has a faint root beer core with touches of vanilla and caramel..I think?? It basically has no bite and is lightly carbonated. The finish is a hint of vanilla and a minute herbal note. This root beer is smooth but is somewhat bland. Needs more kick! 6.5/10.

Penny Frosted Root Beer

Penny Frosted root beer was created by the good folks over at The Penny Cola Company. The Penny Cola Company is located in Montebello, CA and opened for business in 2013. I'm rather amazed to keep finding all these new soda companies and I'm definitely grateful. This is another good one! The body is fairly complex and is noticeably spicy. It has an impeccable level of sweetness, but maybe a tad over carbonated. It had a premium sassafras core with compliments of cinnamon, wintergreen. licorice, and a touch of vanilla. The head on this brew is basically non-existent, which is a bummer. The finish is crisp, spicy, and the pure cane sugar is very noticeable. Very well done! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9/10.

Hummingbird Hill Birch Rootbeer

Hummingbird Hill Soda Company is located in Silverdale, Washington and was established in 2002.  They are a very small company and bottle all their sodas by hand. They have 14 different flavors and mostly sell their sodas at farmers markets. They have 2 flavors in particular that I'm interested in...the Birch Root Beer and Root Beer. Today, I'm reviewing the birch....the head on this starts out rather large but fizzes away quickly. Ummmmm....the body is very hollow and almost tastes flat. Where is the birch and core sassafras flavor? There's almost none to speak of..Where are the spices? The bite is basically just carbonation is my understanding that these sodas tasted way better back in the day..atleast according to my point man in the Washington area. It kills me to be so harsh....but it's my honest opinion. 2.5/10.

Foxon Park Root Beer

I wanna say congrats to my Ohio State Buckeyes for bringing home The National Championship! Now to the review...shall we? Foxon Park Beverages is located in East Haven, CT and was established in 1922. Everything about this company screams old fashioned. The head on this brew was ok but disappears way too quick. I'm afraid the body needs some work too. It's rather hollow and somewhat watered down in my opinion. There's no kick, no bite, and no real spice. It is a tad creamy and has some vanilla, caramel, and wintergreen in the finish....which is pleasant. Everything about this brew also screams mediocrity. 6.5/10.

Top City Root Beer

Top City root beer is carefully handcrafted and bottled in Topeka, Kansas. Top City is a newcomer to the craft soda world. They made their debut in the summer of 2014 at a local festival. Their root beer consists of 20 different flavors and it only took them 20 or so batches to get the balance of flavors they wanted. I'm ready to get some!! Lets do this..:) This is a very complex brew. It's also creamy, spicy, and crisp. It has a perfect level of sweetness and the carbonation is almost impeccable. The head on this brew was somewhat lacking and maybe could use some malt dextrin. The body is rather unique and packs quite a punch. The body consists of vanilla, cinnamon, and wintergreen. The finish is creamy spicy goodness.....very exceptional! Top City definitely has a bright future and I wish them the best. Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9.5/10.

Dominion Root Beer

Dominion root beer is brewed and bottled by The Old Dominion Brewing Company, which hails from Dover, Delaware. I'm lucky enough to have this available to me locally because this is one elite brew. The head is the only thing that is going to stop this from being a perfect 10. It's ok...but could be tons better. The body is superb. It's creamy, smooth and delicious. The pure honey and vanilla really make there self known instantly. Then... if you combine a delightful sassafras note and the pure sugar cane....that gives you a taste of heaven on your taste buds! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9.5/10.

Freaky Dog Roofbeer

Freaky Dog is a line of sodas by the Ipswich Brewing Company, which is located in Ipswich, MA. They also have another line of sodas under the name Mercury. It is my understanding, that the recipes are exactly the same. Honestly, I'm not sure what the point is to have two lines that are exactly the same is?...well, lets get to it! The head on this brew is kind of fizzes away rather quickly. This soda is on the sweet side and has hints of wintergreen and licorice. It's not as spicy as I would like....there is also a misplaced flavor is the finish that I just can;t place. It's kind of's not dreadful but kind of weird. This soda could use some more work, but it's definitely drinkable. 6.5/10.

Bavarian Inn Root Beer

The Bavarian Inn is located in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This is a neat little town in the middle of no where it seems. I had a chance to visit a couple years ago and was quite impressed. This tiny little town is also the home to two bottled root beers. Today, I'm here to talk a little bit about the Bavarian Inn root beer. If you were expecting an enormous head on this one,,,,,,'d be disappointed. In fact, there was zero...everything else seems to be in order though. This brew is very sassy and very sweet and has lots of spicy notes just rushing to the surface. There is some honey, vanilla, and wintergreen that make an excellent finish. 8.5/10.

Spike's Root Beer

This root beer is brewed and bottled for Spike's Junkyard Dogs, which is a chain restaurant in the New England area. Empire Bottling Works are the ones making this specially for Spike's. Also, if you ever get the chance...Spike's makes the best hot dog I've ever tasted! The head on this brew is average and nothing too fancy. This brew is dark in color and in flavor. The color of this brew is almost a jet black, The body has a bold sassafras foundation with some light accents of molasses and wintergreen. This is a sound brew! 8/10.

Tommyknocker Root Beer

Tommyknocker root beer is carefully handcrafted by The Tommyknocker Brewing Company, which is located in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Tommyknocker has been brewing award winning craft beer and soda since 1994. It's my understanding that they have tinkered with this recipe a few times over the years too. I admire them for wanting to make the absolute best product they can. Tommyknocker root beer is surely one of a kind. The head on this brew is more than's quite grand,..if you will. The body on this brew is very exquisite. It has a core premium root beer flavor with distinctive maple syrup and delicious vanilla notes. I wish more brewers would incorporate maple syrup into their root beers. The Canadian root beer king agrees too..;) A full-bodied root beer dream come true! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Firewheel Brewing Company Chocolate Coconut Root Beer

This is the fourth and final root beer from The Firewheel Brewing Company, which is located in Rowlett, Wisconsin. This is the first brew I've come across that uses coconut as a key ingredient in the making of a root beer. I'm very opened minded and welcome anyone who can think outside the box. The head on this brew was a little below par...This root beer is lightly carbonated and is definitely on the sweet side. It has a small sassafras core followed by some chocolate and some rich coconut. The coconut really stands out and is very prominent.  This soda tastes almost exactly like a milk chocolate almond joy candy bar! If you enjoy coconut...thus would be the brew for you! 8/10.

Gray's Root Beer

Gray's root beer is brought to you by Gray's Brewing Company, which is located in Janesville, Wisconsin. Gray's Brewing Company has been doing business since 1856. I'm really enjoying the label on this one...a picture really does say a thousand words. I'm afraid the head on this brew was rather lacking....the body is kind of hollow and very light on flavor. This root beer is a tad creamy but has no kick or spicy goodness to it. There is a little vanilla in the finish....that comes to the surface. This is just a mediocre root beer....6.5/10.

Fizzy Izzy Root Beer

Fizzy Izzy root beer is brewed and bottled by Crown Valley Brewing, which is located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.This root beer is named after one of the tigers at The Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary...Izzy! Fizzy Izzy root beer sports a large and foamy head. This brew is very sweet and lightly carbonated. It also does not contain any preservatives, which is kind of cool in my book. I'm recognizing some vanilla and wintergreen followed by a core sassafras note. The finish is some birch, wintergreen, and a touch of sweet vanilla. This is one amazing concoction! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Firewheel Brewing Co.Caramel Root Beer

I do believe I'm up to a trifecta of brews from the amazing Firewheel Brewing Company. FBC hails from the great state of Texas in Rowlett. This is the third brew I've had the pleasure to review from this genius company. This brew happens to be a caramel, which might be the best caramel root beer I've had to date. This brew has bold sassafras foundation with caramel has the key note. It's not overly sweet but is a tad creamy....with some choice vanilla. The finish is some spicy caramel and maybe a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Very well proportioned! Very tasty too! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9.5/10.

Old Red Eye Root Beer

Old Red Eye root beer was brought back to life by The Orca Beverage Company.  Orca is a retro and nostalgic soda manufacturer, which is located in Mukilteo, Washington. Orca does retail and wholesale orders and has 100's of sodas in their repertoire. I'm a very big fan of Orca! On to the soda review....shall we? Red Eye has a decent head with modest staying power. I would say this soda is a little sweeter than most brews. The body is very sweet, sassy, and spicy!...with spicy being the key word here. I do believe cinnamon is the most dominant spice being used in this root beer. I also detect small notes of wintergreen and licorice in the finish! This brew is smooth,, bold, and just plain tasty! All Orca beverages i do believe, use pure sugar cane as their main sweetener 8.5/10.

Sweetwaters Bison Brew Root Beer

Happy New Year!! Wow, I can't believe this is my 100th review already!....and it has only been a little over 3 months. Time sure does fly by when one is discovering hard to find brews. Bison Brew root beer is handcrafted for Sweetwaters, which is located in Burlington, Vermont. This is their homemade version and can only be found at their establishment. Sweetwaters opened for business back in 1981 and have been thriving ever since. I was quite surprised how tasty their brew was....sometimes these restaurant brews can be rather blah, in my opinion. The head did leave a lot to be desired, however. I'm afraid it didn't last very long. This brew is definitely full of flavor. It's a little on the sweet side and has vanilla, caramel, and a hint of wintergreen as its flavor profile. It does have a premium root beer flavor as its core note. The finish is quite savory with spice and luscious vanilla! 8/10.

Jack Black's Dead Red Root Beer

Jack Black's Dead Red Root Beer was developed by the people at Real Soda. Real Soda is a distribution company as well.....and they offer 100's of sodas that all come in glass bottles. Real Soda in Real Bottles is located in Gardena, CA.. They are a very cool company and I've ordered from them a dozen times at least.  Jack Black's is one of the few root beers you'll come across that is actually caffeinated. Brazilian Guarana is one of the key ingredients in this soda. I was pleasantly surprised when I viewed the head that developed in my frosty mug. It was quite large and had a little staying power. This brew has a pleasantly sweet body that is also a tad creamy. The aftertaste has a noticeable licorice note and hint of vanilla....very nice! This was very close to being in the brew of fame. 8.5/10.

Bulldog Root Beer

The headquarters for Bulldog root beer is located in Fresno, California. Bulldog has been brewing their magnificent root beer since 1997. Years ago..when I first became interested in craft root beer...Bulldog was always the name I heard when describing the best root beer, Years later...this is still considered one of the best on the's just a lot easier to find these days. The head on this brew is more than acceptable. This stuff has an amazing aroma to it. Yum Yum! This beverage has a perfect carbonation level to it...You can surely taste all the exquisite honey and's perfectly proportioned too. This brew has one of the best finishes in the business! Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 10/10.

Millstream Brewing Company Root Beer

Millstream Brewing Company is located in Amana, Iowa and is Iowa's oldest microbrewery. They also brew up a cream soda in addition to their root beer. This brew does sport a nice creamy head. There is so much vanilla goodness in this root beer. It's lightly carbonated which really allows all the flavors to come to life. The finish is rather extraordinary with hints of caramel and silky vanilla, which creates a heavenly mouth feel, Welcome to Brad's Brew of Fame! 9/10.

Wang Gang's Nearly Famous Root Beer

Wang Gang's Nearly Famous Root Beer is brewed, bottled, and packaged in Edwardsville, Illinois. This soda line also includes an orange and a black cherry. The black cherry seems to be the flagship flavor here....although usually it's the root beer. These sodas were originally just available at Wang Gang Asian Eats, but now they are shooting for nationwide.. They have went from selling 90 cases a month to 2000 in just a short period. Their root beer was also featured on an episode of Two and a Half Men....not too shabby!!
The head on this brew started out rather nice but got a little shy and disappeared on me rather quickly. You can definitely taste some black cherry in this one, which is rather unusual. I'm having trouble finding any other spices in this soda however. It has a nice sweet body and I kinda like the black cherry, but wish they wouldn't have stopped there. Also, it's surely overcarbonated and you receive a small burn after every swallow 7/10.

Firewheel Brewing Company Vanilla Root Beer

This is another brew sent to me by Brad at Firewheel Brewing Company, which is located in Rowlett, Texas. I definitely enjoyed the vanilla more than the maple. I give them mad kudos for having more than one root beer.....and plus they also bottle it! I was a little disappointed with the head on this one was basically non-existent.  This brew has a bold sassafras flavor with some creamy vanilla mixed in...which creates one tasty beverage! 8/10.
